A memorial service will be held for Johnny Nelson at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1413 S. Union. Rev. Dr. Ruth Fowler of Trinity United Methodist Church and Pastor Don Johnson of Bykota Church will officiate. Roswell Fire Department will provide an Honor Guard.

Johnny Nelson was born February 14, 1935 on a farm near Dexter to Roy and Ruth Nelson, who both preceded him in death. Johnny passed away Sunday, November 12, 2006 at the age of 71.

Johnny is survived in death by his loving wife of 24 years, Jimmie Lou Nelson, his brother Richard Nelson and wife Jean, son Alan Nelson and wife Karen, daughter, Kelly Bush and husband Ray, and Stepson Mike and wife Linda Richards and stepdaughter Kim Richards. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephew and cousins.

Johnny retired from the Roswell Fire Department in 1991 as a lieutenant after serving 24 years. He served 9 years in the NM Army National Guard, from 1953-1962. Prior to his service with the fire department he farmed at Caprock and Roswell. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ballard Funeral Home and Crematory. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Ronald McDonald House, 1011 Yale NE, Albuquerque, NM 87106, or Community Kitchen, PO Box 30101 Roswell 88202-3010.
