John married Julia Edwina Harger on March 19, 1950 in Witchita, KS. His wife has preceded him in death.

John is survived by Teresa Walker and husband Lawrence of Roswell; his grandchildren: Shauna Johnson, Daniel Walker and Lizzi Walker; his great grandchildren: Brenyn, Aidan and Ciaran Johnson.
