JOHN HUBERT LANDER
A Masonic graveside service is scheduled for 2:00 PM, Friday, September 22, 2006 at South Park Cemetery for John Hubert Lander, 93, who passed away September 15, 2006 at Landsun Home in Carlsbad, NM. Reverend Archie Echols of 1st United Methodist Church will officiate. Mr. Lander was born January 16, 1913 in Ree Heights, South Dakota, to Francis Edward Lander and Effie S. Fogel Lander.
During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy. He was an Appeals Examiner for the U.S. Dept of Veterans Affairs. Following his retirement he was a Claims Adjuster for a private insurance corporation in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He attended the School of Law at Columbus University in Washington. He received his Bachelor of Law Degree in 1939, and was a member of Sigma Delta Kappa Law Fraternity. He was a member
of Fairbault Masonic Lodge 9 in Fairbault, Minnesota ; a recipient of a 50 year service pin as of January 8, 1995; member of Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, in Minneapolis Minn.; member of Zuhrah Shrine, in Minneapolis, and of the Shrine Club, in Roswell ; member of First United Methodist Church and The Searchers Sunday School Class ; grade school in Ree Heights, S.D., High School in Princeton, MN and three years in night school of law at Columbia University, in Washington, D.C., where he earned the L.L.B. Degree.
Mr. Lander is survived by his nephews, Jerry Brown of Pueblo, NM, and Wallace Adams of Silverdale, WA; nieces, Beverly K. Etchells of Phoenix, AZ. and Darlene Anderson of Antioch, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Landers name to Landsun Hospice at 1815 Westridge Rd. Carlsbad NM 88220.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ballard Funeral Home and Crematory.
