Joe Spalding shed the bonds of this earth on Friday, September 18, 2015, and is now at home with the Lord he loved and joyfully served. A service to celebrate his life will be held at 10 a.m. this Friday, September 25, 2015 at Christ's Church with Gerri Chaves and Lonnie Owens of Christ's Church officiating. A graveside service will follow at the Portales Cemetery. Visitation is planned for 4 to 7 p.m. this Thursday, September 24, at Ballard Funeral Home.
Joe was born on May 26, 1954, in Dallas, Texas, to Dan Spalding and Ena McWilliams Spalding. His dad preceded him in death.
Joe was a lover of God and a Bible study leader, with his wife Barbara, for several years. He was also a member of the Gideons and president of Lend-a-Hand of Roswell. He was a long-time active member of Christ's Church.
A loving family man, Joe's great joy was in being a husband, father and grandfather. He was always ready to help those in need and was able to fix just about everything. Joe was an outdoorsman and a pilot, an animal rescuer and a friend to many. He was an electronics expert, manufacturing engineer and a Realtor. He was employed by Devon Energy at the time of his death.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Barbara, of the family home; son Chris Spalding and wife Amy, of Lubbock, Texas; son Mark Spalding and daughter Sheryl McCool, both of Roswell; his mother, Ena Spalding of Midland, Texas; one brother, Eric Spalding and wife Linda of Houston, Texas; and one sister, Jill Allen and husband Larry of Andrews, Texas. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Mark McCool, Sam Spalding, Jack Spalding and Maggie Spalding.
Pallbearers will be Buddy Blue, Sam Spalding, Eric Spalding, Brent Allender, Mark Spalding, Ron Lethgo, Mark McCool and Chris Spalding.
