A rosary is scheduled for 6:00 p.m., Thursday, May 13, 2010 at the Ballard Funeral Home Chapel for Joaquin B. Aguirre, 79, of Roswell who passed away May 11, 2010 at his home. A funeral mass is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 14, 2010 at St. Johns Catholic Church. Fr. Juan Antonio Gutierrez of St. Johns Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery.
Joaquin was born on August 16, 1930 in Tornillo, TX to Jose Aguirre and Maria Barron Aguirre. His parents have preceded him in death as well as a brother Pablo Aguirre, a sister Belen Aguirre and a daughter, Silvia Aguirre
Joaquin is survived by his wife Maria Sifuentes Aguirre his sons: Joaquin Aguirre Jr. of Rio Rancho, NM and Jose Aguirre of Roswell his daughters: Rosa Chavez and husband Daniel of Albuquerque, NM, Maria Sopher and husband Lee of Roswell, Josie Silva and husband Michael of Roswell, Leticia Medrano and husband Rick of Roswell, Joann Mendoza and husband Junior of Roswell, Elizabeth Aguirre and fianc Sean McMullan of Albuquerque his brother: Juan Aguirre and Silverio Aguirre both of El Paso, TX his sisters: Felipa Hernandez of Canutillo, TX, Felicitas Cossio and husband Alejandro of El Paso, TX Josefina Saenz and husband Jose of Blyth, CA and Maria Aguirre of El Paso, TX as well as 17 grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Joaquin served his country in the US Army. He has lived in Roswell for 36 years moving here from El Paso, TX. His main emphasis was spending time with his family. He loved everything to do with the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and camping. He would often take in a stray cat or dog and care for it. He always bragged about his cooking especially his homemade french fries, he also took the credit for showing his wife how to make flour tortillas. He was loved and enjoyed by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
Pallbearers will be Joaquin Aguirre Jr., Jose Aguirre, Daniel Chavez, Rick Medrano, Lee Sopher, Junior Mendoza, Sean McMullan and Michael Silva.
