Joann Bartlett, née Cravens, aged 90, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2024, in Houston, Texas, where she resided for 12 years. Graveside services will be held at 9:00 am, Saturday, August 24, 2024 at South Park Cemetery.
Joann was born on December 17, 1933, in Magazine, Arkansas, to David Barclay and Rilla Cravens. She graduated from Magazine High School in 1951 and moved to Lubbock to attend Texas Tech University. There she met and married Charles William Bartlett ill, on May 31, 1955, in Lubbock, Texas. They relocated to Roswell, New Mexico, in 1957 to join the family business and operate Roswell Glass & Supply Company on East Second Street.
Survivors include one son, Charles William Bartlett IV and daughter-in-law Astrid of Aberdeen, Scotland; and two daughters, Deann Mills and son-in-law Monte of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Deborah Bartlett and son-in-law Nicolas Klotz of Ifrane, Morocco. She is also survived by her brother, David Cravens, and his wife Judy of Carrollton, Texas; and her sister-in-law, DeVelva "Biddie” Bartlett Hampton and husband Dan of Castle Rock, Colorado.
Joann is also survived by six grandchildren: Kirby Ann Bartlett of Austin, Texas; Charles William Bartlett V and his wife Samantha of Leander, Texas; Walker Davis Mills and his wife Virgy of Honolulu, Hawaii; Audrey Elizabeth Mills of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Graham Sterling Mills of Denver, Colorado; and Virginia Joann MacArthur of Atlanta, Georgia; and three great- granddaughters: Sofia and Scarlet Hernandez and Willow Bartlett, all of Austin, Texas. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Bartlett had been a Roswell resident from 1957 until 2013. She retired from The First Baptist Church where she was Outreach Leader for over 10 years. Prior to that, Mrs. Bartlett was active with local PTA organizations, Garden Club and Investment Club. In 2013, Joann and Charles Bartlett relocated to Houston, Texas, to be closer to their children. The real benefit of that move was it meant their children could now reach them without multiple connections followed by a 3-hour drive. That was something Joann had wanted for a long time. The real joy in Mrs. Bartlett’s life seemed to come from her family. Whenever she talked about her kids, grand kids or great- grandkids, her eyes lit up and her voice filled with happiness and joy. To see her dream come true and then to hear that her children were visiting regularly was a real blessing. Mrs. Bartlett was a member of the Kingwood Baptist Church in Kingwood, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles William Bartlett III, who passed away in 2020; her parents, David Barclay Cravens and Rilla Cravens, longtime residents of Lubbock, and her in-laws, Charles William Bartlett Jr and DeEtte Green Bartlett, longtime residents of Roswell, New Mexico. Mrs. Bartlett’s wishes were to be buried in South Park Cemetery in Roswell next to her husband and his parents.
