She is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Elmer Dean Sons; her children, Sandy Bell and husband Greg of Clovis, Lindell Fulkerson and wife Angie of Roswell, Donna Todd and husband Terry of Artesia and Shonna Fulkerson of Roswell and her faithful sister and best friend Linda Rhodes and her husband Frank of Roswell. She is also survived by her grandchildren John Dickey, Annie Jo Dike, Brandon Claussen Fulkerson and his wife Kelli, JayDe Fulkerson, Travis Fulkerson, Stephanie Grace Valencia and her husband, Santiago, Shane Todd and his wife Haleah, Shawn Todd and his wife Destiny, Brianne Rowell and her husband Jasper, Clayton Barnhill, Ben Barnhill, Quintin Sons, Corey Sons and his wife Shawntelle, Heather Chipuk and husband Tim, and Paul Sons and wife Cheyenne, as well as 26 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Jimmie Fulkerson, a son Jimmie (Duane) Fulkerson; granddaughter Valerie Dickey and a grandson Joshua Angel, along with both of her parents.
She spent most of her life in Roswell, where she too went to school and found her first love. She retired from First Federal Savings in 1998, where she was the voice on the phone, the keeper of the safety deposit boxes, and the councilor to all the "young ladies" who worked with her.
All who knew her would comment on her fun-loving ways, her classy style, and her beauty. She loved to make others smile. Jo enjoyed ALL things family, community bible study, the assistance league, and her "hen parties- with her best buddies, Roetta Keever, Kaye Wagner, Darlene Wyche, Martha Eberhart, Shirley Jennings, and Linda Rhodes.
She taught her children to respect others and that no matter how many times this life knocked you down, to get back up and find joy in the little things. The poem, "Footprints" was truly her life's story. She would want all to know the comfort of a loving savior. She endured many trials, yet carried herself with grace and class that illuminated the room. She will be greatly missed!
Serving as pallbearers are her grandsons John Dickey, Quintin Sons, Paul Sons, Benjamin Barnhill, Travis Fulkerson, JayDe Fulkerson, Shawn Todd, Shane Todd, Brandon Claussen Fulkerson, Corey Sons and honorary pallbearer Clayton Barnhill.
The family request that donations be made to the Assistance League of Chaves County, PO Box 1324, Roswell, NM 88202.
