Jerry Chavez, Sr

Jerry Chavez, Sr. was born November 04, 1951 to Willie Chavez and Lucy Lueras in Roswell, NM. He passed away July 21, 2014 at ENMM Center where he lost his battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis in May 2013 and fought hard to get better but lost the battle. Jerry passed peacefully with his wife by his side.

He is survived by his wife Julie father Willie sons Michael Ray Chavez and wife Donna, Jerry Chavez and Gina, Ray Allan Schaffer and wife Linda daughter Norma Lynn Irwin and husband Dan sisters Irene Chavez and Nora Barr and husband Stan aunt Cecilia Garcia and Viola Chavez, uncle Jake Chavez, aunt Oralia Lueras, Minnie Guevara, uncles Mike, Ramon and Robert Lueras. He has three grandchildren Anna Winkler and husband TJ, Rylea Ross, Bradley Chavez of Roswell three great grandchildren Jay Dee, Sol Winkler and Kailea Ross nephews Ruben Sanchez and wife Larissa, Mathew Morales and wife Michelle, Isaac Maestas, C.J. and Brian Barr nieces Melissa and husband Josh and Tammy Maestas step grandchildren Reshea and Johnathan Kelly, Amanda, Kimberly and Jennifer Irwin and step great grandchild Kobe Kelly.
He was preceded in death by his mother Lucy Lueras Chavez and his sister Carolina Maestas. Paternal Side: Pablo Gregoria Chavez, Guermo Cornelia Chavez, uncle Leo Johnny Chavez. Maternal side: Greatgrandmother Mele, grandfather Manuel Lueras, grandmother Emilia, Librado Lueras, Tony Lueras, Senaida Lueras.

Jerry started working at Pops Drive Inn when in high school. He joined the Navy during the Viet Nam War, was discharged honorably and went to work for Armstrong Construction for 26 years as a road Superintendent, then worked for Constructors Inc. For 2 years then for Rusty Ryan from Forrest Tire for 2 years.

A rosary is scheduled for 6 pm, Thursday, July 24, 2014 at St. Johns Catholic Church. A funeral mass is scheduled for 10 am, Monday, July 28, 2014 also at St. Johns Catholic Church. Jerry will be cremated as per his wishes.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are his father Willie Chavez, sons Michael Ray, Jerry Chavez and Ray Allan Schaffer, grandson Bradley Chavez and nephews Ruben Sanchez and Mathew Morales, brother in law Manuel Ortega and Roger Maestas, special friends Tom Rico, Billy Duran and Rusty Ryan, special brother and sister inlaw Manuel and Lilly Ortega special aunt and uncle Ramon and Enedina Lueras.
