Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints. (Psalms 116:15)
On Friday, January 20, 2017, at 3:05 P.M., the Lord rejoiced as he welcomed Jerene Hunt Bristow into heaven. She was met at the Gates of Heaven by her husband of 59 years, Roger Dee Bristow, Sr., who has been waiting for her since December 25, 1998, along with friends and family who have gone on before.
Jerene was born on August 16, 1919 to Robert T. and Amanda Hunt in Old Glory, Texas. She was one of 13 children, and is survived by one sister, Myrtle Hunt of Rule, Texas who is 102 years. Jerene is also survived by a son, Roger D. Bristow Jr., and wife Twana of Amarillo, TX and a daughter, Nancy Rojean Alvarado of Roswell, NM. She has nine grandchildren, Lisa Moore of Amarillo, TX, Michael Bristow and Zuzanne of Houston, TX., Buster Stites and Rochelle of Roswell, NM., Benjamin Stites and Francisca of Roswell, NM., Kristi Choate of El Paso, TX., Andrea Bristow of Amarillo, TX., Bethanie Oyetola and Sunday of Roswell, NM., Mauricio Munoz of Roswell, NM., and Maurissa Munoz of Roswell, NM. She lovingly included Alicia and Dalus of Roswell, NM, and Mathew of Roswell, NM as grandchildren in her family, as well as many others. Jerene was great-grandma to 16 and great-great-grandma to 9. All were blessed to have the love of their mom and grandma.
Jerene and Roger (Buster Bristow) came to Roswell in 1939 and made it their home. For many years Jerene helped Buster run Bristow's Fruit Stand on East Second Street. Jerene was a Charter member of Trinity Baptist Church. Her family was her joy and she dedicated her life to caring for them. She had a heart of compassion and a gift of hospitality for all she met. No one ever left her home hungry, but with full stomachs and hearts full of love. Anyone who came in her home always left as family, calling her "Aunt Jean" or "Grandma", and there was always room for one more at her table. She loved sewing, music, singing, cooking, baking and being surrounded by those she loved.
Visitation will be held at Ballard Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 24th, from 2:00pm to 7:00 pm. Burial services will be held at 2:00 on Wednesday, January 25th, with Eldridge Snow officiating. Graveside services will follow at South Park Cemetery.
Grandma touched so many hearts with her tender soul, and she will be missed by all who knew her. We are comforted and rejoice knowing she is being held by her Savior until we meet again.
