Jean Corn Boswell

Services are scheduled for Jean Corn Boswell on Thursday, January 3. Family burial services conducted by Rev. Stephen Deutsch of Dexter will be followed by an 11:00 memorial service at First Presbyterian Church of Roswell with Dr. Hugh Burroughs officiating. Jean passed away Friday, December 28, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. Ballard Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Jean was a second generation native of Roswell and a member of an early pioneer ranching and farming family. Born September 7, 1927, she spent her early years on the Dexter Corn farm, Martin V. Corn Jr. Ranch on Pine Lodge and Roswell. A graduate of Roswell High, Jean attended the University of Oklahoma and the University of NM where she was affiliated with Chi Omega sorority. Jean married Thornton Thorny Boswell August 12, 1947, starting their family life in Dexter on the E.O. Moore farm. The family later moved to Roswell where Thorny was associated with Diamond A Land and Cattle Company.

Mrs. Boswell was an elder in the Presbyterian Church and played in the handbell choir. She spent many hours volunteering as a flower show judge, mother advisor and state executive board member for the Order of Rainbow for Girls and as charter member and president of the Eastern New Mexico Medical Center Auxiliary. Jean also served on the ENMMC Board of Trustees and the ENMMC Foundation for many years. She was elected Worthy Grand Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star in New Mexico.
Jean was a past president of Chapter K, P.E.O. of Roswell and served as State President in 19831984. In 1993 Jean was installed as President of the International Chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood after serving on many levels of the international philanthropic organization for women. In this capacity she was involved on the board of Cottey College and received an Honorary doctorate degree from Iowa Wesleyan University. Her tenure on the International Board afforded her the opportunity to travel all over the Continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii and Canada to visit chapters, often accompanied by Thorny. Other affiliations include Roswell Reading Club, Olivet Study Club, and National Parliamentarians. Through all her contacts, Jean had a knack for remembering all by name and gave each person her own personal interest and attention.
The Boswells enjoyed time at their family cabin and Alto retreat where Jean spent many hours photographing the flora and fauna. With over 100 box turtles in the backyard, Jean was Roswells turtle authority. Her love of animals had her adopting everything from hawks to ring tailed cats to skunks. She leaves behind her beloved Westie, Andy.
Jean was predeceased by her parents Earl S. Corn and Elda Morton Corn, husband T.H. Boswell III, inlaws Thornton Boswell Jr. and Mildred Martin Boswell and brother and sisterinlaw Marty and Jo Boswell.
