A memorial service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Tabernacle Baptist Church for J.D. Smith, 76 of Roswell who passed away May 25, 2009 at his home. J. D. was cremated according to his wishes.

J.D. was born on February 19, 1933 in Las Vegas, New Mexico to Jasper Smith and Odessa Hester Smith. His parents have preceded him in death.

J.D. married Alice Hudson. She preceded him in death on July 17, 2008.

J.D. is survived by his sons: Robin Smith of San Francisco, CA and David Smith of San Diego, Ca; his daughter: Lynda Carpenter of San Diego, Ca; his sisters: Lunell Motley, Ginger Rogers, and Susie Miller all of Roswell; his grandchildren: Brandon Smith, Chelsie Smith and Angel Smith.

J.D. served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He has lived in Roswell for over 60 years and worked as a welder.
