Jerry Pond flew into Roswell, NM in February of 1965 to begin his service at Walker Air Force Base and he left this world to join his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on a medical transport flight leaving Roswell in the early morning hours of October 4, 2016. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Milford Lee Pond and Eva Louise Tomey Pond Nolin and brother David Allen Pond of Muncie, IN.
Jerry wasn't a native to NM having been raised in Muncie, IN. He graduated from Central High School in 1961 and attended North Central University in Minneapolis, MN before entering the Air Force in 1965 not knowing what to expect from the Southwest he was blessed to soon find his future bride Karolyn Wheeler whose family also essentially adopted Jerry as their very own. With that turn of events Jerry's future as a New Mexican was set; although his family was often fond of teasing him about his "Yankee" roots. Along with new family, friends and church home, Jerry found an all new career at Rhoads Company where he began working the day after he was discharged from the Air Force and worked for 47 years and 7 months until his retirement this past June.
Jerry spent many years as an active member of the Assembly of God churches in the Roswell area as well as a long serving board member of the Roswell Church Softball League. He was currently a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Roswell where he was active in his Bible Fellowship Class and a weekly Bible Study Group.
Jerry is survived by two sisters Vickie Titus and husband Ray of Findley, OH and Barbara Jean Curtis of Alexandria, LA; two daughters Missy Holman with her husband Greg of Roswell and Kristen Pond of Austin, TX; three grandchildren Sage Richards of Austin, TX, Adelaide (Addie) and Andrew Holman of Roswell; nephews Brandon Ridens of Brunswick, GA and Jeremy Ridens of Roswell, as well as five other nieces and one nephew. Jerry is also survived by his wife of 46 years Karolyn Pond of Roswell.
Serving as pallbearers are Brandon Ridens, Westin Rhoads, Jamie Pack, John Monk, Dave Hampton and Dylan Salvo. Honorary pallbearers are Marvin Griffin, Tom Ridens, Rick Rhoads, Ronnie Phillips, Ron Collins, Dave Herbal, Greg Holman and Richard Mays.
In lieu of flowers (if you choose) donations can be made in Jerry's name to the Down Syndrome Foundation of Southeastern New Mexico, 308 N. Richardson, Roswell, NM 88201 or Rejoice Marriage Ministries, 402 NE 1st St, Pompano Beach, FL 33060.
