James Ottway Gill

A funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 29, 2008 at the Ballard Chapel for James Ottway Gill, 88, of Roswell, who passed away November 24, 2008 at his home. Captain Kelly Nolan of Salvation Army will officiate. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery. Roswell Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military graveside service.

James was born on September 14, 1920 to Thelbert Union Gill and Mandy Rosey Jane McBride Gill. His parents have preceded him in death.

James married Nadine on July 6, 1962 in Carrizozo, NM. She survives him at the family home.

James is also survived by his son: Wayne McCarter and wife Rosie; his daughters: Judy Ann Purselley and husband Allen, Sharon Denise Poe and husband Bob, Rose Louise Moore and husband Brian and Nadine Adell Shelton; his sisters: Mary Hoskins; as well as fifteen grand children and eighteen great grandchildren.

James served as Staff Sergeant in the Army during WWII. James received Cold War Recognition Certificate, was a Decorated WWII Veteran, and Served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations. He previously served as Corp. Sergeant Major at the Salvation Army Church.

Pallbearers will be Allen Purselley, Bob Poe, Wayne McCarter, Brian Moore, James Mac Dougal and Benny Jaramillo.

In lieu of flowers the family wishes donations be made in James name to the Salvation Army Church, 612 W. College Blvd., Roswell, NM 88203.
