Our beloved Father and Grandfather James Dowe Belt 86 (Jimmy Belt, Shorty) passed away at his home with his family by his side on March 24th, 2022. Because His address has changed to Heaven, he will be with the Love of his life, Carolyn Sue Belt.
Memorial services are scheduled for 2PM on Tuesday March 29th at Crossroads Assembly of God Church, 1224 West Country Club Road, Roswell, New Mexico. Pastor Melvin Suttle will officiate at the services.
James was born April 3, 1935 to Don and Anna Belt. His life started in Newark, Ohio. When he was 10-years old, his family moved to Floyd and Clovis, New Mexico. While living in the Clovis area, he worked on the Garrett Farm. As a young man, his family moved to Roswell where he got a job at NMMI in the Mess Hall. He later worked at several dairies, milking cows and even delivered milk to houses. He also worked at Electric Hose and Rubber Company in Olney, Texas from 1978 to 1983. James finally retired in the mid 90's after being custodian at the Roswell Adult Center for several years.
He married Carolyn in 1959. They were blessed with three children: Joanne (Benny) Willeby, Terri (Robert) Odell, and Leonard who was stillborn. They had four Grandsons: Brandon (Amanda) Brisco, Edwin Brisco, Zachary (Janie) Albritton, Spencer Albritton; and one Granddaughter Teresa (Scott) Pierce. They have 16 Great Grandchildren, and several Great Great Grandchildren.
Other survivors are 2 sisters: Betty (Tino) Rodriquez, Nancy (Bill) Kilgore, and 1 brother Robert (Fransiska) Belt; with 1 very special sister-in-law Glenda Short. Many other family members.
Those who preceded James in death are waiting to welcome him home are his wife Carolyn, his parents Don and Anna Belt, Leonard (son), one sister-in-law Adele Sides, his in-law's L.M. and Lucille Smith and one Great Great Grandson Nolan Hulett, his half-brother Charles Sines.
Jimmy loved to tell his life stores to anyone that would listen. Some were tall tales too. He loved to junk out old cars and things. He would just pick up old washing machines and dryers, hotwater tanks and other stuff from alleys, and he collected cans. He has made a lot of extra money with that and he loved doing it. He also enoyed fixing up old furniture.
Daddy you will be missed by a lot of us here and we dearly love you. Go find Mama now.
