Jacob Joseph Varela
Loving husband, brother, Pop’s, and uncle. On Thursday, November 5, 2020 Jesus called Jacob Joseph Varela 66 of Roswell NM home. He left this world surrounded by his family. Jacob was born to Jacob and Gloria Varela on July 15, 1954 in Hollywood, CA.
He attended high school at Artesia High in Lakewood, CA where he graduated in 1972. Jacob moved to Roswell in 1991 he met Rose De Los Santos in 1996 and were later married on July 27th, 2013. Jacob was employed at Roswell Job Corp for five years and worked part time for RISD cafeteria program as a truck driver. In 2001 Jacob was employed by New Mexico Beverage which was later bought by Admiral Beverage where he became a driver supervisor. In 2015 Jacob went to work for Ruan Transportation where he later retired in 2017.
Jacob was a loving caring man who was full of life, he enjoyed surfing, bird hunting, and he loved skiing in the spring at Big Bear in California. He also loved spending time at the beech his favorite spot was Crescent Bay. Jacob also enjoyed sports his favorite teams were LA Lakers, LA Rams, and LA Dodgers.
Jacob was preceded in death by his father Jacob, his mother Gloria, baby brother Michael and sister Becky. Also preceded in death were his grandparents Jose and Rebecca Varela and Seraipo and Ermina Nunez, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Left to cherish his memories is his wife Rose Varela and their girls Yvette Hodan and husband Jason, Doreen Lovato and husband Jeff, three grandchildren Alexis and Jeffery Lovato and Bryan Hodan all of Rio Rancho, NM. Jacob is also survived by two brothers and one sister, Carl Varela of Greenville, SC, Thomas Varela of Roswell, NM and Marlene Ritter of Lakewood, CA. Jacob was also loved by his brother and sisters-in-law Ray and Dorothy Sedillo, Rick and Valerie Sedillo, Ron Sedillo, Rudy and Anita Candelaria, Jeanette and Ray Sanchez, Valerie and Don Poling, Ted and Tyrese Vallejos, Renee and Joe Fulton all of Albuquerque, NM, and Donna and Rudy Romero of Roswell, NM and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jacob will be truly missed by his beloved pets Maximo and Mylie. A special thanks to the nursing staff at Loveless Regional, Tara, Lilian, and Richard, also a special thanks to Dr. Richard Pinon and Dr. Jessie Surla for their special care and compassion.
Pallbearers will be Thomas and Michael Varela, Rudy Romero, Ray Sanchez Jr, Wes Daniel, and David Matta. Honorary pallbearers will be Eva Nunez Saenz, Mark Vickers, Pete and Alice Carrasco, Olivia Vallejos, Joann Chavez, Collette Candelaria, Bobby Nunez and Chuck and Charlene Allan.
Visitation will be held from 2:00pm to 5:00pm, Thursday, November 12, 2020 at Ballard Funeral Home.
A rosary will be held at 1:30 pm, Friday, November 13, 2020 at St. Peters Catholic Church with mass to follow at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery.
