Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 am, Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Victory Baptist Church for J. C. Hoot Smith, 95, who passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Sunset Villa Care Center. Pastor Dan Holt of Victory Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery.
J.C. was born June 24, 1919 in Childress, TX to Oscar C. Smith and Maud Kent Smith. His parents preceded him in death. Also, J.C. is preceded in death by his wife Ruth Lewis Smith who passed on March 19, 2012 and his two brothers and five sisters.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son James Thomas Smith of Roswell daughters Laura Elizabeth Beeman and husband Gary of Roswell, Cynthia Inell Scott and husband Steven of Sierra Vista, AZ and Luretha Lee Kuehn of Roswell grandchildren Jesse Lynn Beeman, Laura Luretha Alexander, Melody Beeman, Christopher Dale Scott, Jonathan Daniel Scott and William Ray Sanders great grandchildren Cheyenne Beeman, Caytlynn Beeman, Steven Anthony Scott, Corey Lee Sanders and Mia Inell Sanders. Also serving are numerous other family members.
J.C. worked for the Roswell Fire Department for fortythree years, retiring as Batallion Chief. He was a gardener for many years for Mrs. J.P. White residence, which is now the Historical Society for South east New Mexico Museum at Lea and 2nd street. J.C. loved playing dominos, camping and working on cars but his children and grandchildren were what he loved the most. He influenced many young people who loved him liked a father.
Serving as pallbearers are the Roswell Fire Department Honor Guard.
The family request that memorial contributions be made in J.C.s name to the Alzheimers Association New Mexico Chapter, 404 N. Kentucky, Roswell, NM 88203.
