Irene Montgomery
5/1/1922-11/20/2015
Matriarch: The female head of a family or tribal line. A woman who is the founder or dominant member of a community or group. Irene Montgomery is a Matriarch. On Friday, November 20, 2015 a family torch was passed down as Edna Irene Montgomery left our world to be reunited with our Lord in Heaven and her husband, Chester Glenn Montgomery who preceded her in death in 2009. Her great legacy shall be carried on by her four children Barbara Peck and husband Lester of Roswell, Nancy Montgomery of Roswell, Joe Montgomery and wife Marilyn of Palmdale, Ca. and Reba Baird with husband Jim of Roswell. Her love and support touched the lives of seven grandchildren, Daniel Peck of Copperas Cove Texas, Newell Peck and wife Amy of Houston Texas, Charissa Dimas and husband Edward of Killeen Texas, Peigh McCreary and husband Larry of Roswell with son Trevor Herrington, Danielle Brock and husband Jeff of Milford Michigan, Tamara Montgomery of Roswell, Candice Rincon and husband Tommy of Roswell and Chandler Montgomery with wife Shauna of Roswell. She was also loved by fourteen great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and numerous cousins of which will impact the world for years to come and pass the memories and lessons of Irene and Chester on to future generations. Known and loved as Irene "Aintie" by many, called Mom by a special few, Grandma by those lucky enough and Granny by those brave enough and then only once! Irene created, and at times held together, a family that will carry on her memories, traditions and love for years to come. Having lived her life through the great depression, WWII, the great dust bowl, and most of her life before the World Wide Web, Irene had seen enough negative in life to truly appreciate all that is good in the world. Oddly enough this period of time was known as "the good old days". It was when women were ladies and men were gentle and a person was only a stranger till you introduced yourself. She shared her hard earned wisdom with all that knew her. While some people are "a jack of all trades and master of none" Irene was a jack and master of all and you needn't ask for her knowledge or wisdom, she would give it requested or not. She was an extremely hard worker beginning at a very early age and lasting much longer than most. She worked into her late seventies, which gave her the opportunity to positively impact the lives of so many people in private and public. She was easy to connect with and fun to be around. She was a natural athlete having played softball and basketball in high school and chasing kids for seventy years, making it look easy.

Irene's family and friends will celebrate the life of the Montgomery and Holman family matriarch at Ballard Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at 2:00 pm followed by graveside services at South Park Cemetery. There will be a viewing on Monday, November 23, 2015 at Ballard Funeral Home from 4:00pm-6:00pm.

Serving as pallbearers are Joe Montgomery, Chandler Montgomery, Newell Peck, Daniel Peck, Larry McCreary, Tommy Rincon, Jim Baird and Lester Peck. Honorary pallbearers are Trevor Herrington, Chester J. Montgomery, Lukas Montgomery and Hunter Rincon.
