Hubert Oscar Brooks
Hubert O. Brooks passed away peacefully on Friday, June 10, 2011, surrounded by loving members of his family at his bedside. Hubert was born to James O. Jim Brooks and Grace Hensley Brooks May 17, 1925 in Apache, Oklahoma. His parents preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a son David W. Brooks, three sisters Fredie Burrows, Iva Goggins, and Lois Marr, and a brother Johnny D. Brooks.
The family moved to Dexter N.M. in 1934 from Oklahoma. Hubert attended L.F.D. School here in Chaves County. He was forced to quit school at the age of15 when his mother passed away. He had many odd jobs and was also was a ranch hand for the Diamond A. Ranch west of Roswell. He served the U.S. Navy during WWII. Hubert worked at Culligan Soft Water for several years, moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1970. He retired from the city of Las Vegas as a heavy equipment operator in 1990, and moved back to Roswell to enjoy a slower pace of life. Hubert enjoyed staying busy with wood work and projects. He was a non stop handy man at his home and was never idle.
Hubert married Sarah Ruth Burroughs March 12, 1948. She survives him at the family home. Also surviving him is his brother Ira Brooks and wife Jean, son Glenn E. Brooks and companion Tammy Bragg, his sister in law Mary Brooks, eight grandchildren, Robert and wife Rebecca Brooks, Joseph Brooks, Larretta Mathews and husband Scott of Las Vegas, Nevada, Cheryl Bear and companion Ian Nutter, Brian Brooks, Daniel Brooks and wife Jessie of Roswell, Deanna Black and husband David, and Darrell Cook of Texas, seventeen great grandchildren Franky and wife Jasmine, Renee, Kristin, Gaberial, Patrick, Stephenie, David Joseph, Casandra, Caroline, Daniel Jr., Michael, Maranda, Ryan, Justin, John David, Victoria, and Skylar, two great great grandchildren Ella Rose and Joshua. Also surviving him are many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family wishes to thank Hospice Vista Care for all the special care they gave to Hubert.
Funeral services will be held at Ballard Funeral Home, 910 South Main St. Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at 2:00 pm. Pastor Terry Warner of the New Covenant Fellowship Church of God will officiate. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery with Roswell Veterans Honor Guard conducting military honors.
Pallbearers will be Patrick Brooks, Brian Brooks, Daniel Brooks, Joe Wayne Brooks, Gary Riordan, and Scott Mathews.
