Howard Charles Peterson, age 66, a beloved figure of Roswell, NM, sadly left our world on January 22, 2025, after a life richly lived in service and kindness.
Born in Roswell on May 18, 1958, he grew up in Akron, Ohio and graduated from Ellet High School. Howard later returned to Roswell where he worked and retired from the New Mexico Military Institute. He started there as a baker and moved on to work as a maintenance person.
He was tenderhearted and while he didn’t talk much, he always wore a smile and gave a hearty wave to anyone passing by. You could always find Howard working on his 1980 Cutlass Oldsmobile, his pride and joy. Known for the love of saltwater fish and archery, Howard was deeply loyal to his friends and would often let them know he was there for them, especially in sharing his home baked banana bread. He had great faith and embraced the Lord in his life.
Preceded in death by: Father, Weldon H. Peterson; Mother, Hana (Takahashi) Peterson; older brother, Timothy A. Peterson. and leaving a legacy through younger brother William T. Peterson and his wife Kristin C. Peterson of Virginia Beach, Virginia; nieces Alicia Rhamy and her husband Joshua Rhamy and their daughters Zoey and Riley of Yorktown, Virginia; and Alexandra Fort and her husband Stephen Fort and their daughter Olivia of Salem, Virginia.
Howard’s family would like to express their appreciation for the Gonzales family who embraced him as family. His memory will be a guiding star for all who knew him.
