Henry Stefhon, age 62, passed away on May 8, 2024, unexpectedly at his home in Comfort, Texas. Born on March 3, 1962, in Roswell, New Mexico, Henry was the son of Dudley and Delfina Stefhon. After living in Delaware for a short time, he was raised in Hagerman, New Mexico, and graduated from Hagerman High School in 1980.
Henry was well-known in the community for his time as a butcher at Valley Grocery, where his rotisserie chicken and ribs were enjoyed across the valley. Time spent at the store was special, and Henry shared a bond with his cousins Ramon Saenz, Edward Martinez (Eddie), Robert (Bobby) Martinez, Alfred Martinez, and Christina Martinez Weir, as they grew up and worked there together. After Henry started his family with Gloria Lucero, you were sure to see Jessica in the meat market with her dad. They had a very special relationship and he called her his “Angel of the World.”
Henry continued his passion for being a butcher at Lowe’s Grocery store in Comfort, Texas, where he formed lifelong friendships with his coworkers and customers. He is survived by his daughter Jessica Dawson (David), son James, siblings Patrick Stefhon (Lisa), Dora Batista (Matthew), Mary Ann Burr (Marvin), and Gerald Stefhon (Machele). Henry also is also survived by his special aunt Viola Martinez, uncles Ricardo (Ricky) Martinez and Ralph Green, as well as many nephews, nieces, and cousins. He is also survived by his longtime girlfriend LouAnn Garcia.
Henry is preceded in death by his parents Dudley and Delfina Stefhon, brother Larry Stefhon, Aunt Rumalda (Rummy) Green, uncle Calixto (Cliff) Martinez, and grandparents Elias and Nicolasa Martinez.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Ballard Funeral Home in Roswell. The graveside service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Hagerman Cemetery, where Henry will be laid to rest.
Henry's son James Stefhon, brother Patrick Stefhon, cousin Ramon Saenz, and brothers-in-law Marvin Burr and Matthew Batista, along with Uncle Ricky Martinez, will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include his brother Gerry, cousins Eddie, Bobby, and Alfred Martinez, and Uncle Ralph Green.
The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to their family and friends for the outpouring of love and support during this challenging time.
