A rosary is scheduled for 7:00 pm, Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Ballard Chapel for Helen Sanchez 71, who passed away Friday, February 11, 2011 at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center. A mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Wednesday, February 16, 2011at St. Johns Catholic Church. Father Juan Antonio Gutierrez OFM will officiate. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery.
Helen was born December 22, 1939 in Capitan Mountains, NM to Leon and Dorothy Aguilar Gonzales. Her parents preceded her in death. Helen married Fred Sanchez II, he preceded her in death in 1969. She is also preceded in death by her son Fred Sanchez III and a special friend Telles Lara.
Helen is survived by her sons Vincent Sanchez of Roswell, and Mark Sanchez and wife Ambrlee of Los Lunas, NM daughters Lydia Laing and husband Jesse of San Antonio, TX and Rita Sanchez brothers Johnny Gonzales of Rio Rancho, NM, Larry Stone of Roswell, Raymond Stone of Roswell, Eddie Gonzales of Mesa, AZ and Leon Gonzales of California grandchildren Andrea Cortez and husband Tony, Irene Chavez, Benjamin Laing, Christopher Laing, Jessica Sanchez, Jordan and Amori Sanchez great grandchildren Lydia Ogas, Annalicia, Tony and Marcos Cortez and baby Jordan Sanchez.
Helen was of the Catholic faith and was a member of St. Johns Catholic Church. She was a lifelong resident of Roswell and worked at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center as a Police Tech. Helen loved spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed doing puzzles and crossword puzzles.
Pallbearers will be Jesse Laing, Joe Rodriguez, Ben Laing, Chris Laing, Lydia Ogas and Eric Otero. Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Cortez.
