Gwen J. Dunning
On May 30, 2018 Roswell said goodbye to one of their best, Ms. Gwen Dunning. A lifelong resident of Roswell, NM she started her journey of reunification with her heavenly family at the age of 78. Gwen was born to Harold Lee Jones Sr. and Mary "Pauline" Moore Jones in Roswell, NM on June 24, 1939. Both of her parents have preceded her in death.
Gwen's Dad established Main Trailer Sales, and as normal protocol dictates with any family owned business, she was required to help. Her job during her teenage years was to sweep out and clean the trailers. It was a job that she detested, and did most anything to get out of, but like everything, she did it to the best of her ability.
Gwen graduated from Roswell High School and took a job at the Petroleum building. She then was hired at Chaves County Savings and Loan as a bank teller. Through hard work, accountability and integrity she made her way to the top and finished her banking career as the Vice President of First Federal Bank.
Gwen was an artist inside and took up painting as a hobby after taking classes with her oldest daughter. She enjoyed oil painting and the mutual hobby with her daughter. She learned to sew from her mother and became a seamstress and quilter. Coming from a family of five children sewing in those days was more necessity than hobby but as she matured in years she loved the art of the needle and thread as a calming reminder of her mother.
She was family oriented and her love was never on short supply. As her parents aged and approached their own twilight years Gwen was there for them just as they had been for her. As a single mom of three she worked whatever hours were necessary, always put food on the table, clothes on their backs, and love in her children's hearts. This strong willed and passionate mother was the bedrock and provider of her family. She raised her children to be prepared for all life's ups and downs. She made sure that they were prepared for everything and anything. She was "Mom" to not only her children but to the friends of her children as well.
Gwen was truly a one-of-a-kind person. Her legacy will be forever remembered, not just by her success at work or the amazing pictures painted or quilts sewn; but rather, by the love she shared. Parents who were cared for until the end, children who were given their mother's love every day to protect and provide for them.
Gwen is survived by her son Mark Baldwin and his wife Starlett of Roswell, NM, their two children Alysha McCready and her husband Jordan, and Ethan Baldwin; daughters Cari Baldwin and Larry, Melissa "Lisa" North and her husband Anthony with their four children Elizabeth, Jon, Logan, and Noah North; brother Wayne Jones and his wife Isla; sister Judy Romines and her husband Jerry. Nieces and nephews, cousins and friends that are all family!
She is preceded in death by her husband Charles Dunning; brother Harold Jones II; sister Anita Lambert.
A visitation will be held at Ballard Funeral Home on Friday June 01, 2018 from 8:00am to 5:00pm with a graveside service to be conducted at South Park Cemetery on Saturday June 02, 2018 at 10:00am.
