Gloria Montoya

February 4, 1951 — May 13, 2012

Gloria Jean Montoya

Gloria Jean Montoya, 61, went home to the Lord on May 13, 2012. She was a loving and caring mother and wife, who always put others before herself. Gloria battled her disease with courage and unremarkable strength.

Gloria was born on February 4, 1951 in Roswell to Elon and Lupe Lucero. She grew up in Roswell and graduated from Roswell High School. She married her high school sweetheart Joe Montoya in April 1969: they just celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary. Gloria worked for USFG Insurance Agency for several years. She then worked for the Fifth Judicial District Court as District Court Clerk. Gloria was tireless in her efforts to support her husband in his schooling and coaching career. She was the best bleacher Mom and Wife an athlete or coach could ask for. Her children and grandchildren were involved in many different sports year round and Gloria was always supportive and their biggest fan.

Gloria was of the Catholic faith and was devoted to the Lord. Through her journey she was comforted in reading andor listening to her daily devotionals and inspirational scriptures.

Gloria enjoyed spending time at her cabin in Ruidoso and dropping a quarter or two at the casino.

Gloria was preceded in death by her mother, Lupe Lucero, and brother, Richard Lucero. Her husband, Joe Montoya, survives her at the family home, as well as, her four children Cindy Sanchez, of Roswell, Debra Merigo and husband Al, of Las Cruces, Denise Burrola and husband Moses Dude of Roswell, and Randy Montoya and wife Sonya, of Roswell.

Gloria was a wonderful grandmother, who was attentive, thoughtful and supportive of each and every one of her ten grandchildren. Meghan, Breanna and Bryce Sanchez, Tarren, Taymon and Trey Burrola, Lauren and Madelynn Merigo, Isaiah and Aniston Montoya. Other survivors include a sister Dorothy Irion of Ruidoso and her father, Elon Lucero of Roswell, as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give a warm thanks to Frontier Home Medical nurses Carmen Anaya and Vanessa Torres. Dr. Benny Phillips of Lubbock, Texas, his nurse Amber and staff. And the loving and caring nurses from Covenant Womans and Childrens Hospital, 5 North. The family also appreciates the support and assistance of Dr. Richard Pinon.

The Family has been abundantly blessed with prayers, support, and love from family, friends and coworkers. This journey would not have been well traveled without this ring of support.

A Rosary will be held Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 7 pm at Assumption Catholic Church of Roswell. A funeral mass will also be held at Assumption Catholic Church on Friday, May 18, 2012 at 12:10 pm. Father Andrew Molina will officiate. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery.

The family request donations are made in Glorias name to the American Cancer Society, 1051 Montgomery Blvd. NE Suite 300, Albuquerque, NM 87110.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ballard Funeral Home and Crematory. An online registry can be accessed at www.ballardfuneralhome.com

No one knew the pain she bore,
Beneath the smile she always wore,
A loving memory dearer than gold,
of a Mother whose worth can never be told
