A rosary will be recited at 9:30 am, Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Assumption Catholic Church for Gerre Evans, 90, who began her life journey on August 29, 1924 and her eternal journey on Monday, May 11, 2015. A memorial mass will follow at 10:00 am with Father Andrew Miles officiating.
She was the oldest daughter of Joseph S. and Isabelle L. (Briggs) Fron in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she grew up, attended Parochial Elementary and Catholic Central High School, from which she graduated in 1942 as Senior Class Secretary. Gerre received her B.A. degree from Loreto Heights College in Denver and her M.E.D. from Loyola University of Las Angeles. She was a retired Educator having spent almost 40 years teaching in Parochial, private and public institutions in various states in the U.S. Most of her teaching however was in New Mexico among the migrant children so dear to heart.
Gerre married Dan E. Evans on July 22, 1971 in Lake Arthur, N.M. He survives her as well as his sister, Marilyn Reed of Las Vegas, N.V.; a sisters-in-law Bev Fron of Grand Rapids, MI. Gerre boasts of a large extended family of aunt Iris Clark, nieces, nephews, cousins and many devoted friends, also, her faithful canine companion, Skippy.
Gerre was preceded in death by both her parents Joseph S. and Isabelle Fron; three brothers Joseph and his wife Janet, Robert and wife Mary Ella Fron, Richard Fron and brother-in-law Jim Reed.
Gerre enjoyed participating in activities with various groups and organizations in the parishes she attended: Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Lake Arthur, St. Anthony Church, Artesia and Assumption Church. She belonged to the Alar/Rosary Societies, Women's Clubs, Guadalupana Society, Catholic Daughters and Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration, she also taught Religious Education for 38 years.
She wishes to thank all members of her catholic Christian family of Assumption Church, who lovingly accepted her for herself and gave her deep living examples of faith, hope and love, as well as those of other religious faiths, who inspired her with their friendship. A very special thank you to Fr. Bill McCann for his spiritual encouragement and to the doctors for their loving concerns as they tended to my physical ailments.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to your favorite charity or to Poor Clare's Monastery, 809 E. 19th St., Roswell, NM 88201; Roswell Humane Society, 703 E. McGaffey St., Roswell, NM 88203; All Saints Catholic School Scholarship Fund, 2700 N. Kentucky Ave, Roswell, NM 88201.
