George G.T. Taylor Lewis
A graveside service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 10, 2009 at South Park Cemetery for George G.T. Taylor Lewis, 90 of Roswell who passed away September 6, 2009 at Mission Arch Care Center. Elton Delbeck will officiate. Military rights will be conducted by the local Roswell Honor Guard.
G.T. was born on June 27, 1919 in Lovington, NM to Burl Houston Lewis and Leona Wiggins Lewis. His parents have preceded him in death as well as brothers BH and Clarence, sister, Ida Jane and two granddaughters, Karen Sue Lewis and Angela Rose Thompson.
G.T. is survived by his wife, Geneva; his daughter: Linda Sue Thompson and her husband Bruce of Spanish Fork, UT; his sons: G.T. and his wife Martha and Burl and his wife Dawn both of Roswell; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
G.T. was in the U.S. Army during World War II and participated in the Normandy invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. G.T. worked for and perfected his craft of carpentry at Pecos construction CO., Holloway Construction and Anderson Building. He opened his own company, G G Builders. He enjoyed building wooden toys and donated them to less fortunate children at Christmas time. He made unique wooden bowls, rolling pins, cutting boards and candle sticks, all coveted by friends and family. He taught his grandchildren how to use carpentry tools and also taught carpentry to patients at the Rehab Center.
