A memorial service is scheduled for 2 pm, Sunday, October 25, 2015 at Ballard Funeral Home Chapel for Leon Savage, 89, who passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2015 in Roswell. Minister Elana Levy of First Presbyterian Church will officiate.
Leon was born September 25, 1926 in Jackson County, OK to Walter Scott Savage and Nancy Rebecca Nix Savage who preceded him in death. He married Rosie Oliver on July 1, 1948 and she preceded him in death on March 28, 2011. Leon is also preceded in death by his ten brothers and two sisters.
Those left to cherish his memory are sons Bill Savage and Danny Savage and wife Tasha of Roswell; daughters Laura Becky Knoll and husband Curtis of Roswell; Mary Coker and husband Wayne of Roswell; and Julia Savage of Seattle, WA; grandchildren Oliver and Lena Savage; Kylara and Tatiyana Savage; Justin Greene and Shannon Finney; Stacey Richard, Ginny Brock, and Katrina Clark; and Keegan Hayes; great grandchildren Malia Savage; Michael and Alisha Finney; Caleb and Toren Richard and Rees and Lilah Clark; and Gabriel, Alexandria and Madison Hayes.
Leon moved to Roswell in 1947 after discharge from the Navy to work with his brothers at Savage Brothers Electric. He opened his own business with partners doing automotive machine work and engine rebuilding at Southwest Engine Service in 1955. Leon was a past member and president of East Grand Plains Lions Club and Roswell Elks Lodge. He was active in Roswell Little League as coach, president and sponsor. Leon enjoyed relaxing in the mountains at his and Rosie's cabin at Pine Lodge. Leon had a strong sense of fair play, was scrupulously honest, and respected by those who knew him.
