Dr. Francisco Herz
May 29, 1942 March 14, 2013
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated by Father Andrew Miles at Assumption Catholic Church at 9:30 am on Saturday, March 23rd, for Francisco Herz. A rosary will be prayed at 8:45 am, preceding the Mass.
Francisco was born on May 29th, 1942, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, to Alfredo and Catalina Herz, Austrian and German immigrants. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his twin brother, Luis. His wife, Gina, passed away recently on January 21st, seven weeks before him.
He will be deeply missed by his two children, Alex Herz and his two children: Alejandro and Mateo, and Lety Lopez and her two children: Sebastian and Nicole. Others left to cherish Franciscos memory include his soninlaw and fellow general surgeon, Dr. Sebastian Lopez.
Francisco was raised in the port city of Veracruz, where he enjoyed the beach. He always had a great sense of humor. Standing out with his blonde hair and bright blue eyes, people in Mexico would often ask him if it was difficult for him to learn how to speak Spanish. Yes, he would laugh, it was very difficult for me. It is difficult to learn how to talk when one is a child.
Francisco and Luis studied medicine together in Mexico City. They were bright physicians with two specialties: general surgery and gastroenterology. They completed their social service at the Naval Academy in Veracruz. Francisco always treated his patients with love and compassion.
Francisco was a member of the Rotary Club for many years, when he lived in Orizaba and Juarez. He was always a polite gentleman, who enjoyed poetry and classical music.
He and his wife, Gina, moved to Roswell from Queretaro in June of 2011 to be able to enjoy the company of Lety and her family. He attended the Joy Center, where he spent the time with many wonderful people who truly made his days joyful.
A devout Catholic, it seems that Francisco awaited the news of the election of the new successor of St. Peter, Pope Francis, to pass away on the night of the final conclave election.
Franciscos family would like to thank all those who helped care for him with so much love.
Francisco will be missed greatly, but we find comfort in knowing that he will be joining his wife, Gina, whom he loved so much, as well as his other family members, passing away from this life to eternal life with God.
We give Francisco back to you, oh Lord, who first gave her to us yet as you did not lose her in giving, so we do not lose her by her return. For what is yours is ours also if we belong to You. Love is undying, and life is unending, and the boundary of this mortal life is but a horizon, and a horizon is nothing by the limit of our sight. Lift us up, loving Lord Jesus, that we may see further. Cleanse our eyes that we may see clearly. And while you prepare a place for us, prepare us also for that happy place, that we may be with You and with those we love forevermore. Amen.
