Florence Catherine Murray, formerly of Roswell, passed away in Clovis, New Mexico on December 17,2008 at the age of 100. She had been living at Heartland Continuing Care Center for the past 3 years. A rosary will be at St. Peters Catholic Church on Friday, December 19, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at St. Peters Catholic Church in Roswell on December 19, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Father Paul Juniet, O.F.M., will celebrate the Mass. Interment will be at South Park Cemetery in Roswell.
Florence was born to Richard and Susan Wagner on April 14, 1908 on the family farm near Humboldt, Kansas. Both of her parents preceded her in death. She married James Leroy Murray, Sr. on December 27, 1932 in Roswell. He preceded her in death in 1976. Mrs. Murray was a 65 year resident of Roswell moving to Portales in 1996. She was a retired R.N. having graduated from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Wichita, Kansas. She was the mother of three sons, Jim, John and Joe. Her oldest son, James Jim L. Murray preceded her in death. She is survived by her sons John R. Murray and wife Mary of Portales and Joseph C. Murray and wife Kathy of Amarillo, Texas.
She is also survived by on daughter in law Virginia Murray of Weiser, Idaho; a sister, Helen Setter of South Bend Indiana; grandchildren, Nancy Toney, Terry Murray, Sharon Murray, Carol Murray, Alan Murray, Stacey Tompkins, Elizabeth Gomez, Karen Murray, Joshua Murray, and Skye Murray. Numerous great grandchildren also survive her.
Mrs. Murray, known as Flossie to her friends, was a woman of great faith. While living in Roswell she was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church and St. Peters womens group and senior citizen group. While in Portales she was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church.
