On Tuesday, August 31, 2010, Fil Naranjo passed form this life to a happy and healthy new beginning with his Creator. A memorial service has been scheduled for Saturday, September 4, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church, 200 n. Pennsylvania at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Gorton Smith officiating.
Fil, 74, was born on April 18, 1936 in Clayton, NM to Manuel and Lucy Naranjo. Fil grew up in Clayton and had very fond memories of being with his Dad out at the ranch and trading cattle. Having lost his Mom at the age of six, Fil and his father shared an amazing relationship that he cherished all of his life.
Those preceding him in death include his parents, son Michael Naranjo, and brother Raymond Naranjo.
Roswell has been Fils home for nearly 50 years and his contributions to the community have been remarkable. Fil began his long and successful building career in Lovington, NM and during his career he had developments all over New Mexico and in Texas. Having owned his own development business for over 50 years, Fil became a mentor to many younger builders and developed a multitude of friendships in the industry.
Fils life long dream was to someday return to ranching and in 2003 that dream became a reality when he purchased the Thunderhead Ranch. As an astute business man with an obsession for doing things the right way, the ranch quickly became his passion and he spent man long and happy hours pursuing his dream. Having lived a life that touched the lives of so many people, Fil will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
Fil is survived by his wife Pegi Naranjo of Roswell, daughter Michelle Naranjo of Long Beach, CA, granddaughter Henrietta Haycraft of Long Beach, CA, and brother, Tony Naranjo of Clayton, NM.
