Fern Monroe, 89 of Roswell, went to be with her Lord on Sept. 3, 2007. Fern was born on August 6, 1918 in Ft. Cobb, Oklahoma to William H. Richardson and Edith Olmsted Richardson.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 7, 2007 at Sandia Memory Garden Cemetery in Albuquerque.

Fern is preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Carolyn Spencer, sister Wilma Richardson and two brothers, Arthur and Theodore Richardson.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Mather, of Roswell; grandchildren, Jason Shanley of Albuquerque, Allen Shanley, Andrea Moreno and her husband Forests, and Zakory Beeman, all of Roswell; great-granddaughter, Alyssa Jade Moreno; son-in-law, David Spencer of Artesia; brother, Clayton Richardson and his wife Ima of Albuquerque; and numerous nieces and nephew whom she was very close to and loved dearly.

Fern loved her family and was especially devoted to her grandchildren. She enjoyed crocheting, playing bingo and watching old western movies. Fern moved to Roswell in 1990 to be closer to her daughters and grandchildren. She was a long time resident of Albuquerque and retired from the Albuquerque Public Schools.

The family would like to express its deep appreciation to Dr. Gabrielle Stiller, all the employees of the Roswell Regional Hospital, especially the wonderfully, caring and compassionate nursing staff. A special thanks to R.N.s Shelly, Maria, Savanna, Mary, Tonya, Nora, and Sharma, also C.N.A.s Miguel, Terry, Erin, Phyllis and Jeanette, not only for making Miss Fern as comfortable as they could in her last days and especially in her last hours but for going the extra mile to help our family through this huge loss. We would also like to thank Raymond Otero, Larry Stiles and the staff at Ballard Funeral Home and Crematory for their kindness and compassion.
