Evelyn Strahan Reeves

On May 29, 2009 Evelyn Reeves passed peacefully from our world. She was 91 years old, having been born April 20, 1918 to Sally Brown Strahan and Walter Strahan in Archer City, Texas. She graduated from Texas Womens University in 1932. A long time resident of the Fort Worth area, she had moved to Roswell, NM in 2008 to be near her daughter Nancy Corn and her husband, Bob; her granddaughter, Kelley Alsup and her husband, Kyle, and their two sons and Evelyns great-grandsons, Owen and Ryan, and her loving grandson Shawn Brownfield and his wife Laura and her great-granddaughters, Kelsey and Layla. Evelyn is also survived by her daughter Suzanne Gillock and her husband Cliff of Houston, TX, her sister-in-law, Edna Reeves Anderson of Hurst, TX and numerous members of the extended Reeves Family in the HurstFt. Worth area, as well as, throughout Texas and the US.

Evelyn married EJ Jay Reeves in 1943. She was a devoted wife, mother, and friend. The family lived in Breckenridge, Wichita Falls, Amarillo, and Dallas, Texas as they followed Jays jobs. In the early 70s, Evelyn and Jay retired to Runaway Bay on Lake Bridgeport where they lived until Jays death. Evelyn moved to Lakewood Village in Ft. Worth where she lived for 17 years. She most recently resided at Villa Del Rey in Roswell, NM until her death. She left many wonderful friends every place she lived.

Evelyn had 91 wonderful years. Her last weeks in the hospital showed her true character. She always tried to smile and make those around her smile. She was a strong woman who demonstrated true grace and lived unselfishly with a compassion and love for others.

A memorial service to celebrate Evelyns life will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2009 at 1:30 pm at Lucas Funeral Home, 1321 Precinct Line Road, Hurst, TX, 76053.
