Espe Velasquez has gone to take her place in heaven. She died early Monday morning surrounded by her loving family after a yearlong courageous battle with a rare form of cancer.
A rosary will be recited at 9:30 am with funeral mass at 10:00 am, Thursday, November 12, 2015 at St. Peters Catholic Church with Father Charlie Martinez of St. Peters Catholic Church officiating. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery.
Espe was born September 21, 1943 to David and Jessie ( Chuchi) Kamees here in Roswell. She married Joe Velasquez on November 24, 1961. This year they would have celebrated 54 years of marriage. He survives her at the family home.
Espe retired from the RISD. As a child she had to be forced to go to school (literally). After her three children were born, one with special needs she earned a degree in education from ENMU. She spent 27 years in school loving every moment as a teacher. She was loved by all whose lives she touched there faculty, students, parents. She spent countless hours planning, directing, and practicing even making the costumes for Christmas and other holiday plays at school. Love was her motivation for all that she did. This faith and love of the Lord were passed on to her students and anyone she met.
She was member and reader at St. John's Catholic Church and daily communicant at St. Peters Catholic Church.
Espe is also survived by her son Joe Fatima Velasquez, two daughters Corina Reynaud and husband Rick and Lorina Samario and fiance Matthew Lucas. The loves of her life, her grandchildren Taylor Reynaud, Hannah Reynaud and Anthony Samario. Her sister and BFF Martha K. Romero and her children Loretta Tomas, Mary Anne Sarli Alvarado, Judy Nunez, Janet Romero, Homer Sarli, Alex Sarli and all their children who loved her dearly. She is also survived by many dear sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
She was preceded in death by her parents and infant brother and sister.
Serving as pallbearers are Mike Gomez, Lolly Zamora, Jose Macias, Rick Alvarado, Floyd Carillo and Bob Nunez and honorary pallbearers are Jeff Mill, Duane Evans, Woodrow Parker and Cecil Medrano.
