Esabel Chavez

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Ballard Funeral Chapel for Esabel Chavez, 80 of Dexter who passed away on January 20, 2009 at her home.

Esabel was born on July 5, 1928 in Cheyenne, Colorado to Jose Serna and Arsenia Padilla Serna. Her parents both preceded her in death.

On January 21, 1946 she married Federico Chavez in Manzano, New Mexico. He also preceded her in death, as well as two of her sons, Eloy Chavez, and Benny Chavez.

Esabel was of the Jehovah Witness faith and never lost her faith in Jehovah. She always enjoyed cooking for kids, grandkids and whoever came to her house. Even though she didnt have much of an education, she outsmarted all of her children. Esabel always told them that hard work never hurt anyone, she always had those old time sayings that really made you think. She had the hardest job of all raising her ten children and grandchildren. She was the only babysitter we ever knew. Esabel loved to wear aprons, her granddaughter B.J. made her the prettiest aprons. We will lose some of the strength she gave us, but she taught us to be strong no matter what comes our way, and to always remember that family comes first.

Her survivors include her sons, Gilbert Chavez and his wife Tina of Roswell, Santos Chavez of Roswell, Joe Chavez and his wife Mary of Artesia, NM, and Ignacio Chavez of Roswell; her daughters, Mercy Chavez, Lilly Albarez, Mary Chavez, and Joanne Chavez and her significant other James Aguirre all of Roswell; her brothers, Thomas Padilla and his wife Maria, and Chano Zamora and his wife Rosa all of Roswell; her sister, Denise Zamora of California and 27 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 4 great, great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Dr. Stiller, Vista Care staff. A special Thanks to our nurses, Francis and Dan for their compassionate care.
