Ernest B. Core

A closed casket service will be held on Monday, June 14, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church for Ernest B. Core 72, who passed away on June 10, 2010 at his home. Rev. Stephanie Harmon will officiate. Coach Core will lie in state at Ballard Funeral Home Sunday, June 13, 2010 from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for friends wanting to pay their respects.
Ernie was born on August 27, 1937 in Steubenville, Ohio to Ernest B. Core Sr. and Freda Bourne Core. His parents preceded him death. Also, preceding him in death his brother Lewis Jackson Core.
Ernie married Frances Patricia Henderson on August 28, 1960. She preceded him death on September 13 2001.
Coach Core is survived by his daughters Carol Core of Orange, TX., and Laura Core of Roswell, NM, grandchildren Jennifer Hellums and Sarah Hellums of Lubbock, TX., and Kalli Core of Orange, TX., greatgranddaughter Makenzie Hudson of Lubbock, TX., sister Barbra Metelsky and husband George, nephews Greg and Daniel Metelsky of Amherst, OH. and sisterinlaw Joann Core, Tyler Core, niece Taresa Core, brotherinlaw Thomas W. Henderson of Las Cruces, NM., cousins Ardene Rickman of Silver City, NM., Patrick Rickman of Phoenix, Az., and Christine Rickman of Silver City, NM.
Coach Core received his Masters Degree from UNM and began his teaching and coaching career at Roswell High School in 1960. He moved to Goddard High School and retired in 1990 after twentyeight years of teaching. During his coaching years Ernie took many of his boys and girls to Tennis State Championship where they were very successful. Ernie also was the tennis pro at the Roswell Country Club and was also in charge of the summer tennis programs for the City of Roswell. Ernie was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed by his entire family and a multitude of friends.
Pallbearers will be John Bassett, David Miller, Bill Murphy, Derry Moore, Steve Moore, Daryl Haley, Raymond Mitcham, Stanley Lair, Art Creswell, Jan Richard, John Ussery and Bill Rapp.
The family would to thank all of Coach Cores care givers for all their compassion and loving care.
