A graveside service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on July 7, 2008 at Twin Oak Cemetery in Artesia, N.M., for Epsy Mae Ledbetter, 94, of Roswell who passed away July 1, 2008 at La Villa Nursing Home. Rev. Stephen Deutsch of First Presbyterian Church will officiate.
Epsy was born on July 7, 1913 to Miles Marion Elliot and Bertha Pearl Williams Elliot in Devol , Oklahoma. Her parents have preceded her in death.
Epsy married Lee L. Ledbetter on October 19, 1939 in Grandfield, Oklahoma. Her husband preceded her in death. They lived in Artesia before moving to Hagerman in 1962. Mr. and Mrs. Ledbetter and son W.H. operated the Conoco Station in Hagerman for 14 years. For the last five years she was a resident of La Villa.
Epsy was a member of First Baptist Church of Hagerman. She loved to cook and enjoyed feeding people. She enjoyed quilting and crocheting.
She is survived by her son Clarence Thomas Clowers of Bonner Springs, Kansas; step-son W.H. Ledbetter of Roswell; ten grandchildren Gayla Diane Tracz, Cindy Ubben, Donna Kay Roach, Craig Clowers, Linda Winnat, Lee Ledbetter, Bill Ledbetter, Judy Morton, Larry Ledbetter, Connie Ledbetter; also nineteen great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren; her brother: Harry H. Elliott; and her sister: Ethel V. Shaw. Epsy was precede in death by one step son Leonard Ledbetter, one grandchild Gary Ledbetter and her brothers George Elliott, Albert Elliott, Claude Elliott, Sam Elliott and Arto Elliott.
The family request that memorials be made in Espys name to the New Mexico Boys and Girls Ranch, P.O. Box 5000 Belen, NM 87002-5000.
