Elmer Dean Sons
Passed from this life on December 18, 2020. Elmer Dean was born July 13, 1931. He was a child during the Great Depression when his family migrated from Oklahoma to California in search of work. These were difficult times and shaped the work ethic and tenacity of our nation’s greatest generation. The family ultimately settled in the farming community of Hagerman, New Mexico. Elmer Dean attended school in the Hagerman school system where he graduated from High school, went to Highland University in Las Vegas and then enlisted in the United States Army as a paratrooper. Dean served in the Korean War as an Army paratrooper. Upon the end of the conflict, he married Iva Sue Springer and joined his father (Elmer Sons) to establish a farming operation northwest of Roswell. Elmer Dean would remain a farmer his entire life spanning over 8 decades in the greater Pecos Valley.
Elmer Dean and Iva Sue would have three children, Danny Earl Sons, Bryan Dean Sons, and Steven Boyd Sons. Elmer Dean remarried in 1980 to Jo Fulkerson. Jo would bring 5 children into the family Sandy Bell, Duane Fulkerson, Lindell Fulkerson, Donna Todd and Shonna Fulkerson. Dean is survived by Danny Earl Sons and wife Charlotte Sons of Roswell, New Mexico, Bryan Dean Sons and wife Jeanette Sons of Canyon Lake, Texas, and Steven Boyd Sons and wife Shannon, of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Grandchildren Quentin Sons, of Roswell, New Mexico, Paul and wife Cheyenne Sons of Roswell, New Mexico, Heather and husband Tim Chipuk of Houston, Texas, and Corey and wife Shawntelle Sons of San Angelo, Texas. Great grandchildren Coltin, Logan, Aniston, Alexis, and Chaz Sons, Emily and Cooper Chipuk, and Ryland, Cash, and Harper Sons. He was preceded in death by his father Elmer Sons and his mother Tilda Sons, first wife Iva Sue, Jo Sons and grandson Eric Sons of Roswell, New Mexico.

Services are pending until a future date.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donation be made in honor of Elmer to the Midway Youth and Family Development Center, PO Box 8067, Roswell, NM 88202.
Graveside service will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at South Park Cemetery.
