Ellis Sanders

A funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 3, 2009 at the First Baptist Church for Ellis Sanders, 93, of Roswell who passed away December 1, 2009. Pastor Matt Brooks of First Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery.

Ellis was born June 23, 1916. In 1923 Ellis and his family moved to the Roswell area in a covered wagon. He lived with his wife Stella in Hagerman, Corona, Capitan, and Roswell, NM. Ellis worked for the railroad, then worked as a carpenter, trapper, farmer, and then went on to work for Armstrong and Armstrong. He loved to fish, hunt, trap but most of all he loved to talk about hunting and fishing.

Ellis was preceded in death by his dad, James William Sanders when he was 7 years old. He was also preceded in death by his mother Nannie Frances Payne Sanders; his sister, Dobie Sanders, his brothers, Douglas, Melvin, Alvin, Ray, Lawernce, and Lacy Sanders, his sister in laws, Amy and Mary Sanders, his mother in law Louise Bea Carver Stellman, Ingram, Ball, his uncle Willie Payne and wife Lena, his father in law, Lester Stellman, his grandchildren, Karen Stitzer and Barry Sanders.

Ellis is survived by his wife of 70 years, Stella Sanders, his sons Elmer Lee and his wife Mary Shanks Sanders, Kenneth Ken and his wife Nina Todaro Sanders; his daughters: Helen Stitzer, Betty Sanders and husband James Sanders, niece Debbie Meinke, nephew Harold Zink. grandchildren and their husbands and wifes Paula Erby Pavla, Mark Mary Sanders, Connie Stitzer, Kendra Barry Sanders, Kevin Christie Sanders, RickMissy Sanders, Bert Crystal Sanders, Dirk Sutra Sanders, Troy Sanders, Kelly Lisa Sanders and many friends, Frank and Minnie Sosa, Dan Post, fishing buddies, numerous great and great, great grandchildren.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Hernandez, Dr. Adajar, Vista Hospice Care providers, Caroline, Jessica, Chris, Glen, Twilla, Anita and Jane.
