A graveside service for Elli Strama, 86, will be at 1:00 PM, Monday, April 1, 2016 at South Park Cemetery with Pastor Richard Smith of Highland Baptist Church officiating. Elli passed away Monday, March 28, 2016 at Casa Maria Nursing home after her heroic battle against liver cancer.
Elli was born June 8, 1929 in Stuttgart, Germany. She came to start a new life in the USA first moving to Chicago Illinois before making her way to Roswell, NM in 1973. Elli's sweet loving nature was demonstrated in the fruits of her love. Her heart for people was cultivated as a caretaker of the sick and elderly. Visiting people at their home she would tend to their needs providing them encouragement or subsistence. Elli loved sewing. She worked for a time in a factory sewing drapes and making alterations for clothing. She lived the adage, "if you do what you love then you never work a day in your life", and she did. She made her own cloths, knitted sweaters and blessed others with her gifts of exceptionally made clothing. Elli loved to participate in activities and the social circle at the joy center. She loved her cats dearly, and at one time she had as many as 8 that she cared for, but her affection for animals extended to feeding the ducks at Spring River Park.
Elli is survived by her son, Thomas Strama and wife Marilyn of Roswell, NM; son, Frank Strama and his sons, Michael and Christopher of IL.
Elli was preceded in death by her husband, Bruno S. Strama.
