Elizabeth "Jo" Riley passed from this life to the next on Saturday, May 16, 2015 surrounded by her loving family in east Texas.
Mrs. Riley came to Texas to be closer to her son and family once she became ill about a year ago. Prior to that time she had resided in Roswell, NM since the 1950's. She was the daughter of Joseph and Mary Barker and grew up in Kansas City, KS. She was employed for many years as the Assistant Manager for Sherwin Williams Paint Store in Roswell. It was there that she met her future husband James H. Riley, Jr, a local mail carrier. They were married in 1958 at St. Peter's Catholic Church.
Jo is survived by one brother, Donald Barker and sister in law Pat Barker. She is survived by one son and daughter in law: James "Roger" Riley and Vickie Riley, who reside in Daisetta, TX. Jo is also survived by two granddaughters, Ashley Riley of Daisetta, TX and Christa Connor of Normangee, TX and one great granddaughter Laura Elizabeth Connor.
Throughout her years in Roswell, she was active with her husband in the American Legion. She was also an active member of Assumption Parish (where she later served as Eucharistic Minister), as well as being a proud member of the Business and Professional Women's Club.
Mrs. Riley was preceded in death by both of her parents Mary and Joseph Barker; brother Ronald Barker; husband, James H. Riley, Jr.; mother in law, Ruby Brum; father in law, Harold Brum, and a great granddaughter, Katelyn Olivia Connor.
Visitation will be at Ballard Funeral Home in Roswell NM, on Thursday, May 21, 2015 from 3pm to 7pm, followed by a Chapel Service on Friday, May 22, 2015 at 2 PM, with burial at South Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to Roswell American Legion, 1620 N. Montana Ave., Roswell, NM, 88201 or Texas Children's Cancer Fund, 6701 Fannin Street #14, Houston, TX 77030.
