Elifonso H. Poncho Madrid, 77, passed away July 24, 2009 at Casa Maria Care Center in Roswell. A rosary will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2009, 7:00 PM at St. Catherines Catholic Church in Hagerman. Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2009, 10:00 AM at St. Catherines Catholic Church in Hagerman. Fr. Brian Guerrini, S.S.C.C. of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Artesia will officiate.

Elifonso was born on November 14, 1931 to Elifonso Madrid and Estasnislada Hinojos in Presidio, Texas. He worked as a maintenance man at the Gomez Bar for many years. Elifonso was a hard worker and very friendly man.

Elifonso is survived by his sons: Henry Madrid of Midland, Texas, Roy Elifonso Madrid of North Carolina, Robert Madrid of Odessa, Texas, and Alonso Madrid of Roswell, New Mexico; daughter, Yolanda Arias of Roswell, New Mexico; brothers: David Madrid of Odessa, Texas, Moses Madrid of Roswell, New Mexico, and Ramon Madrid of El Paso, Texas; sisters: Christina Gonzales of Hagerman, New Mexico, Guadalupe Ramirez of Odessa, Texas, Eleedia Morales of Hagerman, New Mexico, Defina Molina of Odessa, Texas, Juana Olivas of Hagerman, New Mexico, and Lucia Moreno of Lubbock, Texas, seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
