Edith Ann Wilkins Speedy
A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 7, 2008 at Grace Community Church for Edith Ann Wilkins Speedy, 88 of Roswell who passed away August 2, 2008 at her home. Pastor Rick Hale of Grace Community Church will officiate. Edith is being cremated according to her wishes.
Edith was born on December 31, 1919 to John and Doris Powers in Worcester, Mass. Her parents have preceded her in death.
Edith married Harry C. Wilkins, MSgt. Ret., USAF. He preceded her in death on March 10, 1963.
Edith is survived by her three children: Hazel of Aurora, Co, Ed and his wife Karen of Plano, TX and John of Fresno, CA; her grandchildren: Julie Wilkins of Lees Summit, Missouri, Mary Jo Holmes of Plano, TX and Rick Wilkins of Plano, TX; and two great grandchildren: Abigail and Tabitha.
Edith moved to Roswell in 1947 when her husband was transferred to Walker Air Force Base. Edith worked proudly as a housekeeper for many prominent families, most notably over 50 years for the late Joe and Nadine Lackey of Roswell. She also worked for over 15 years at Rulons bar and restaurant.
She will always be remembered for boundless energy, a great sense of humor and a positive attitude right up her last days. Her enthusiasm and love of life were enjoyed and admired by all.
