Returning to Roswell to re-establish his medical practice, Earl often used the apartments bathroom sink to process his lab work. Throughout his career, there was always a phone next to his bed, and he answered calls night or day, never turning a patient away if medical care was needed. Many times, he accepted homegrown vegetables and eggs from family farms as payment. Medicine was his love, and he served the community as a General Practice Physician and Surgeon until his retirement in 1980. A lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Roswell, Earl was a faithful servant of the Lord and lived by His teachings. Personal time was often spent reading the countless books and magazines that always surrounded his easy chair.. from medicine and science to electronics, astronomy and travel. He was a wonderful teacher and mentor and found great delight in sharing his knowledge with others. Assembling Heath kits was a favorite past-time, and he built a telescope, ham radio and rock polisher, which operated around the clock polishing the beautiful rocks that the family had picked up along the road when they traveled. He especially loved his family, the dedicated caregivers who assisted him in his final years, and the hills, plains, stars and blue skies of New Mexico. Dr. Malone lived a long, productive life, serving mankind with respect, compassion, dignity and love.
