Dixie Goodart

May 10, 1924 — January 8, 2012

Dixie Dan Goodart

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Ballard Chapel for Dixie Dan Goodart 87, who passed on to her Lord and Savior, Sunday, January 8, 2011. Pastor Gerry Chavez of Christ Church will be officiating with burial will follow at South Park Cemetery.

Dixie was born May 10, 1924 in Roswell, NM to Daniel and Pearl Ridgeway Goode who preceded her in death. She married Julius J. Dude Goodart on July 18, 1942 in Roswell, NM. They celebrated their 869 years together this July. Dude survives Dixie in their family home.

She is also survived by her daughter Julie Ann Goodart of Roswell, NM granddaughter Kristen V. Bell of Austin, TX and a grandson PFC David Christopher Bell and his wife Sarah of Fayetteville, NC her son Julius Dan Goodart of Lake Arthur, NM and three grandsons David Goodart, Jonathan Goodart and Matthew Goodart.

After the death of her father, Dixie at age 7 and her mother moved to Roswell, NM from Lake Arthur, NM to allow Dixie more opportunities in music. She studied piano at the Alexander Studios and eventually worked as a piano instructor for the studio. After her marriage to Dude, she began a successful teaching career of her own. She taught many years and upon her retirement, she was so beloved by students and parents that they pleaded for her to continue teaching. But Dixie and Dude had other plans. As they both retired relatively close together, in 1978 they took to the road with their Little RV and together discovered many wonderful places around the country.

Dixie shared her musical talent on the piano with several Roswell churches during her lifetime. She played for Washington Avenue Baptist Church, First Baptist Church, Bethel Baptist, Gateway and Christ Church. In her younger years, she played the violin in the Roswell Symphony Orchestra and sang in a womens quartet. She played for many weddings, functions and events.

Anyone who knew Dixie knew of her kind, gentle and generous spirit. She was a loving, caring wife and incredibly wonderful, selfless mother and grandmother. She loved the Lord and she loved her family. She loved a beautiful sunset. My mother was quite a Lady

Pallbearers will be PFC Christopher Bell, Tom Blake and Dan Goodart.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ballard Funeral Home and Crematory. An online registry can be accessed at www.ballardfuneralhome.com .
