Visitation will be held at 2:30-3:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 5, 2007, for Nora Debbie Massingale Clark of Roswell, aged 89, who died on July 1, 2007. Graveside services will immediately follow at Memory Lawn Memorial Park.
Debbie was born on December 4, 1917, in Williamsburg, Kentucky, to parents Frank and Annie Massingale. She was next youngest in a family of nine children, all deceased. Her brothers were Dunning L., Sylvester, Hugh, George, and Vernon. Her sisters were Ethel Burkhart, Edith Green, and Irene Massingale.
Her family moved to Roswell in the 1930s for health reasons, and several brothers and sisters settled in town to raise families and work. Debbie worked in the medical offices of Dr. Haire before her marriage, and she was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
She married Jim Clark in 1951, and they raised a family of five children. She is survived by her husband of the home, daughter-in-law Lugarda Romero Clark of Albuquerque, son John and Phyllis Clark of Crowley, Louisiana, daughter Deborah and Frank Ylinen of Saint Helenas Island, South Carolina, and son James Clark of the home. Son Tommy Clark and daughter Linda Clark Womack both preceded her in death.
Additionally, she is survived by five grandsons, James Allen Clark, John Clark, Jr., Chris Clark, George Cline, and Kenny Cline, as well as four granddaughters, Samantha Lewis, Catherine Burns, Kala Cline, and Christine Cline. Two granddaughters, Tabitha Womack and Carol Ylinen, pre-deceased her.
Debbie was a favorite Aunt to her nieces Connie Colleen Riewe, Brenda Faye Bush, Eloise Williams, Ruth Ann Hall, Georgeanna Smallman, Beatrice Green deceased, and Trilby Burkhart Sanders deceased; likewise to nephews Elmore Burkhart, Richard Massingale, Larry D. Massingale, Ronald D. Massingale deceased, Ralph Green, Jr. deceased, Archie Burkhart deceased, and Vernon D. Massingale deceased.
As she liked to say, she is also survived by a passel of 13 great-grandchildren, flocks of cousins, countless in-laws, numerous friends, wonderful neighbors, and favorite fishing buddies. She will be greatly missed by all.
Honorary pallbearers will be longtime friends Kenneth Salsman, Raymond Pollard, and Jeff Emmons. Pallbearers will be son James Clark, grandson Jay Clark, great-nephews David and Jack Williams, and close friends Chris Meadows and Paul Cornil.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ballards Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association.
