Cruz Albarez Smolky, age 99, peacefully departed from this world on January 1, 2025. A cherished mother, grandmother, great-great grandmother, devout woman of faith and follower of Jesus Christ, aunt, cousin, and dear friend. Cruz profoundly impacted the lives of numerous individuals. She dedicated her life to sharing the teachings of God and Jesus Christ with both nonbelievers, her cherished family, and others, a purpose that resonated deeply within her loved ones. She was bold in her belief and her proclamation of Jesus Christ, passionately desiring everyone to know the majesty of His name and His heart. Her unwavering faith and intense spirit will be remembered by all who were touched by her presence.
Cruz’s life was defined by unwavering determination and selflessness. She worked tirelessly to provide for her three sons, shouldering this responsibility alone while simultaneously nurturing and guiding three courageous young men, each of whom would go on to serve our country in the United States Military. Cruz's days were filled with unyielding dedication as she diligently worked three jobs, labouring during the day, nights, and weekends, all to ensure the well-being and future of her beloved family. Her resilience and boundless love served as a guiding light, leaving a long-lasting mark on her family and all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy of strength and sacrifice will forever be treasured and honoured.
Cruz Albarez Smolky, born on November 25, 1925, in Hope, NM, to Guillermo Albarez and Guadalupe Samaniego-Albarez who proceeded her in death. Cruz is also preceded in death by her loving son, Carlos Cobos, her granddaughter, Geneva Serna, and her siblings Pete Albarez, Luis Leyba, Socorro Blair, Willie Albarez, Reynaldo Alvarez, Joe Albarez and Vincente Albarez. Cruz is survived by her adoring children, Reece and Bruce Smolky, along with her daughters-in-law, Corine and Cristina. Additionally, she leaves behind her grandchildren, Carlos Anthony and Lorenzo Cobos; Ernest and Jamie Smolky; Jason, Jennifer, Gabriel, Misty, Eric Smolky, Stephanie Smolky-Faulk, Cindy Cano, Manny and Bonnie Quintana. Finally, she leaves behind numerous great to great-great grandchildren. Cruz's profound impact and enduring love will continue to be felt by her extensive family and all who were blessed to have known her.
Pallbearers will be, Ernest Smolky, Jeshua Smolky, Jason Smolky, Gabriel Smolky, Carlos Anthony Cobos, Lorenzo Cobos with Honorary Pallbearers being all of her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Services to honour the life of Cruz Albarez Smolky will be officiated by Pastor Joel Wood at Waymaker Church on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, starting with a viewing at 9 am, and followed by the memorial service at 10am. The commencement will take place at South Park Cemetery, where Cruz will be laid to rest.
