Claribel Y. Marshall was born on November 1, 1919 to George and Clara Yarborough in Bryan County, OK. The family moved to Roswell in 1929 for her mothers health.
Claribel attended public schools and graduated from Roswell High in 1936. She attended a business college for two years. On June 2, 1944 Claribel married I.J. Marshall he preceded her in death in 1983.
Claribel has been a devout member of St. Andrews since 1948. She was also an active member in several community organizations. She served as president of the Womens Axillary for two terms and president of St. Marthas Guild, a group that met each Monday at the Marshall home to bead, sequin and sew items to be sold at annual bazaar. She was also secretary, treasurer, membership chairman and president of the Community Concert Association for 30 years. Claribel also worked with thr Roswell Assistance League now the Community League, a group that bought a barracks from Walker Air Force Base and began operating the Working Mothers Day Nursery. Later, with funds raised from their annual Frolics, the present building was constructed.
The Marshalls enjoyed traveling the world. Dolls from each country visited were collected and this extensive, versatile collection has been donated to a city location to be on display for the children of community.
Sewing was one of Claribels interests and skills. As a result Dr. Marshall was the recipient of her handcrafted neckties and sports coats. The Marshalls beautiful home also reflected Claribels accomplished handiwork. Communityminded, Claribel was a regular supporter of United Way, the Assurance Home, the I.J. Marshall Scholarship Fund at NMMI, and many more she initiated the Health and Science Scholarship at ENMURoswell.
As age and infirmities took their toll, Claribels pace slowed and activities such as planning and presenting dinner parties and playing golf were replaced by playing duplicate bridge and getting to know a host of new friends. Her mind always alert, Claribel engaged daily in activities such as extensive reading and cross word puzzles. She also enjoyed maintaining her home and cultivating flowering plants of all kinds.
Preceded in death by her parents, brother, and husband, Claribel is survived by her stepson Jon M. Marshall and his children Robin and Paul Artie Patricia Yarborough, wife of her nephew D.K Yarborough and several Marshall nieces and nephew also survive.
Funeral services will be held at St. Andrews Church on Monday, January 5, 2014 at 10:00 am with Father Dale Plummer officiating. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery. Pallbearers are Gabe Martin, John Bassett, Ron Malone, Phelp White, Ronnie Mayer, Richard Taylor, Jon Coll, Jerry Childress, Kenneth Marshall and Sol Kardon.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to St. Andrews Foundation, Assurance Home, NM Rehab Foundation, ENMUR Scholarship Foundation or a charity of choice.
