A rosary is scheduled for 7 pm, Friday, December 30, 2011 at St. Peters Catholic Church for Staff SGT. Christopher Martinez, 29, who passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2011 in Warner Robins, Georgia. A funeral mass is scheduled 11 am, Saturday, December 31, 2011 also at St. Peters Catholic Church. Father Charlie Martinez will officiate Cannon Honor Guard will conduct military graveside services at South Park Cemetery. With escort provided by the Roswell Patriot Guard Riders.
Christopher was born October 22, 1982 in Roswell, NM to Ramon Martinez Sr. and Sally Valdez. He was preceded in death by his grandmother Lucinda Valdez and grandfather Alberto J. Martinez and uncles SGT. Henry Valdez, MSGT. Raymond Valdez and Carlos V. Martinez.
Christopher is survived by his wife Erika Martinez of Roswell Daughters Illiana and Abbygael Martinez of Roswell father Ramon Martinez Sr. and wife Terry of Roswell mother Sally Etter and husband Greg of Roswell grandmother Anestacia B. Martinez of Hatch, NM grandfather Carlos Valdez of Garfield, NM brothers Ramon Martinez Jr. of Alamogordo, NM and Jose Martinez of Roswell sisters Amy and Maria Martinez of Roswell and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Christopher was a lifelong resident of Roswell. As a young child Chris enjoyed going hunting and fishing with Greg. He loved to play softball and always had a smile on his face. Most of all, he loved spending time with his girls and watching the Dallas Cowboys.
Chris joined the Air Force and during his military career he was able to travel the world being stationed at bases in Louisiana, Guam, Germany and Georgia. He really enjoyed his new position being promoted to the 689th Combat Communication Wing Ground Safety Squadron as a technician.
Pallbearers will be Cannon Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers will Jose Martinez, Ramon Martinez, Freddy Sosa, Joey Lopez, Gabe Garibay, Ross Conde, Louis Rivera, Matt Morales, Kurt Hohman, Terry Black, Gary Cox, Brian Cole, Marcus Atchinson and Francisco Jimenez.
