A rosary is scheduled for 7 pm, Sunday, April 8, 2012 at St. Peters Catholic Church for Charles C Mc McVay, 71, who passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at Lovelace Regional Hospital. A mass is scheduled for 10 am, Monday, April 9, 2012 also at St. Peters Catholic Church with Father Charlie Martinez officiating. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery.
Charles was born July 2, 1940 in Thorndale, Texas to Lawrence and Mila Alexander McVay. His parents preceded him in death.
Charles is survived by his wife Elizabeth McVay of the family home sons Jeff McVay of Levelland, TX and Mark McVay and wife Ginger of Pampa, TX daughter Amy Davis of Roswell grandchildren Natalie Kirkland and husband Zach, Stephanie Gilchrist and husband Jeremiah, Trevor McVay, Alec Davis, Bryce Davis and soon to be greatgranddaughter Taigyn Grace Kirkland. Also surviving him is his ninetysix year old motherinlaw Ada Mashaw, whom he thought very much of sisterinlaw Elaine Shea and husband Kevin of Colorado numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and nephews and nieces that he was very fond of and a very special friend Ralph Tellez.
Charles lived in Roswell since 1966 coming from Carlsbad, NM. He worked for Southwestern Public Service for fortyone years. Charles was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church where he served on the Parish Council. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, and was active as a Little League and Softball Coach for 27 years. His 1980 Taco Box ladies softball team won the state championship. He was also honored as coach of the year three times. Charles served on the City Park and Recreation Committee and Little League and Softball Board of Directors. He was an avid Texas Longhorn fan, liked to fly fish and listen to country music. His most favorite interest was spending time with his family, particularly his children and his grandchildren. He was well thought of by his church and people in the community. The people whose lives Charlie touched still keep their connection with their coach, even as they grew to be adults.
Pallbearers will be Mike McLeod, Danny Whitlock, Varney Brandt, Tom Allen, Les Walker, Bob Smith, Danny Pope and Howard Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Juliana, Tom Norris, Roy Stovall, Butch Sowers, Elton Reese and all the Coffee shop gang.
The family is requesting that donations be made in Charles name to Poor Clare Monastery, 809 E. 19th Street, Roswell, NM 88203 or St. Judes Childrens Hospital, 332 N. Lauderdale, Memphis, TN 38105.
