Charles Coach Swede Dunning

A graveside service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 2, 2009 at South Park Cemetery for Charles Coach Swede Dunning, 80 of Roswell who passed away September 25, 2009 at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center. Pastor Rick Hale of Grace Community Church will officiate.

Charles was born on February 28, 1929 in Albuquerque, NM to Glenn Dunning and Mary Brown Kilmer. Both parents have preceded him in death.

Charles married Gwen Jones Baldwin on June 24, 1983 in Ft. Sumner, NM, she survives him at the family home.

Charles is also survived by his sons: Greg Dunning of Houston, TX, Eric Dunning of Houston, TX and Mark Baldwin and wife Starlett of Albuquerque, NM; his daughters: Melissa North and husband Anthony of Roswell and Cari Baldwin of Santa Fe, NM; his stepbrother: Dean Kilmer of Clovis, NM; and his grandchildren: Jamie Dunning, Michael Dunning, Ashley Dunning, Whitney Dunning, Alysha Baldwin and Ethan Baldwin.

Charles grew up in Fort Sumner, NM. He acquired his Masters Degree in Education from ENMU-Portales and also served in the US Coast Guard. Charles moved from Ft. Sumner and lived in Roswell for over 59 years, where he was a teacher for RISD and coach for over 32 years. Coach worked at Yucca until it closed and then Mt. View Middle School for the remainder of his career. He coached Football, Basketball, Track and taught History and P.E.. He enjoyed snow skiing and playing golf in his retirement.

Coach was such an avid Roswell sports fan, he could give you the latest score and top players names if asked at anytime. He was never far from the radio or TV listening to all the local games.
