Carol McPherson, 99, died on May 9, 2007, at Knik Manor in Wasilla Alaska.
Mrs. McPherson was born on December 25, 1907, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to William and Edith Norris-Greiss. In 1928 she married Walter McPherson in Chicago. She attended Business College after graduating from high school. In 1996, she moved to Alaska, living in Anchorage prior to claiming her residency in Wasilla. She was employed by a telephone company in Chicago in 1926, and she was also a dental assistant with her husband Dr. Walter McPherson when he first started his practice and then became a homemaker raising her three children.
She received the Grand Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. Some hobbies she enjoyed were painting, flying, reading her bible, being with her family, fishing, hunting and gardening.
Her family stated, Walter and Carol moved to Roswell, N.M. where Walter became a dentist and cattle rancher. Carol ran a beautiful 16-room home. Carol lived life to the fullest. She was a pilot, fisherman, and hunter. During WWII Carol flew her Piper Cub delivering U.S. mail in New Mexico. Carol hunted and fished all her life. At 86 years old she was out Moose hunting. At 96 years she was still pulling in silver salmon down at Seward, Alaska. Carol was a member of the Presbyterian Church and attended the Mormon Church with her daughter Lois until coming to Alaska. Carol believed she would go to heaven to be with the Lord. Her favorite verse was Psalm 23. The Lord is my Shepard I shall not want. Carol believes that Jesus died and rose for her so that one day she would be with Him in heaven. Carol was a very classy lady who died with dignity and grace. Her adventurous and generous spirit touched out lives and those around her in so many ways. She was a wonderful mother and loved by everyone she met.
Mrs. McPherson is survived by her son and daughter-in-law; Dr. Robert and Janet McPherson of Las Cruses, New Mexico, two daughters and son-in-laws Jim and Lois Danielson, of Hagerman, New Mexico, and Dr. Delbert and Virginia Brock of Anchorage, 12 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Walter D. McPherson, parents William C. Greiss, Edith Norris Greiss and her brother, Richard Greiss.
She will be interned in Roswell, New Mexico at South Park Cemetery with her husband. Private family service will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Ballard Funeral Home. An online registry can accessed at
